Our Academic Philosophy — Rigorous, Faith-Integrated, Future-Ready

We believe education should ignite curiosity, build character, and prepare students to lead with confidence and compassion. Every lesson at LBCA is designed with three questions in mind: Is it excellent? Is it relevant? Does it build legacy?

Our school is committed to providing a rigorous, student-centered educational experience that prepares learners for success in high school, college, careers, and life.

Prospective families can expect a unique hybrid learning model in which students participate in two days of online instruction and three days of engaging, in-person learning each week. All coursework is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), ensuring that students meet state academic standards while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

During in-person learning days, students benefit from hands-on experiences that integrate career pathway exploration, financial literacy education, and Restorative Justice Practices that foster accountability, relationship-building, and a positive school culture.

Through career-focused learning opportunities, students gain exposure to future professions and develop skills that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.

We encourage families to explore our diverse career pathways, learn more about our innovative educational model, and take the next step by submitting an application to join our school community.

Core Academic Program

Science at LBCA — Preparing for Tomorrow's Standards Today

We teach students to ask big questions, explore with rigor, and marvel at the world around them. We focus on real-world application emphasis: garden science, weather tracking, environmental projects, and community health connections. Lab experiences and hands-on investigation are cornerstones of the science program.

Character Development Woven in Curriculum

Measuring Growth, Celebrating Progress

Our assessment philosophy is centered on student growth rather than grades alone. We believe that assessment should be used as a tool to support learning, identify areas for improvement, and celebrate progress over time. By focusing on growth, we encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to learning.

To gain a comprehensive understanding of student achievement, we use a variety of assessment methods. Formative assessments, such as daily checks for understanding, help teachers monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed. Summative assessments are administered at the end of units to measure mastery of key concepts and skills. Portfolio-based assessments allow students to showcase their work and growth over time, while standardized assessments are administered as required by the state of Texas.

Strong communication with families is an essential part of our assessment process. We provide regular progress reports, hold parent-teacher conferences, maintain an open-door policy, and offer access to a digital gradebook so families can stay informed about their child's academic development. By working together, educators and families can better support student success.

At the heart of our approach is the belief that every student has the ability to grow and improve. We measure success not only by test scores or final grades but by the progress students make along their learning journey. As we often say, “We believe every student can grow—and we measure success by that growth, not just a score.
